SEO / THE PRACTICAL FOUNDATIONS
A practical SEO checklist for your portfolio website
The title, page structure, projects, images and technical settings that make your work easier for search engines to understand.
Start with your name and specialism
Search engines and people should quickly understand who you are and what you offer. Make the home page title specific, for example “Jane Shah | UI/UX Designer in Pune”, and write a concise introduction that describes your actual expertise.
Give important projects dedicated pages
A project deserves its own readable URL with the brief, your role, decisions, images and verified outcome. Avoid posting only a screenshot without context. Link from the work listing to the full project.
Use the words real clients would search
Choose natural phrases such as “graphic designer in Pune”, “Meta Ads portfolio”, or “product design case studies” when accurate. One main topic per page is more useful than stuffing a list of keywords in the footer.
Make images part of the story
Compress to WebP or AVIF where suitable, set explicit dimensions, use meaningful alt text, and only lazy-load images below the first screen. For photos, use licensed or client-owned work.
Finish the technical setup
Set a unique title and meta description on each page, one canonical URL, HTTPS, XML sitemap, robots.txt, internal links and structured data only where facts can be verified. Test mobile layout and contact paths.
Publish, request indexing, then monitor
Verify the domain in Google Search Console, submit the sitemap, inspect important URLs and monitor impressions and indexing coverage. Allow time; no ethical provider can guarantee first position or immediate indexing.
